Measure First, Order Once
Most returns on pet gear come down to sizing, and almost all of them are avoidable with a soft tape measure and two minutes. Every product page on this site lists the size range that item is offered in. This page explains how to take the measurement those ranges refer to.
Collars and Harnesses
- Neck: run the tape around the base of the neck, where a collar naturally sits.
- Chest (girth): measure the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
- The two-finger check: after fastening, two fingers should slide flat between the strap and your pet. Tighter than that rubs; looser than that slips over the head.
If your pet falls between two sizes on a collar or harness, take the larger one: the adjustment range moves down more comfortably than it moves up.
Coats, Vests and Sweaters
- Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. This is the measurement that decides the size.
- Chest: the widest point behind the front legs.
- Neck: where a collar sits.
Deep-chested breeds often need a size up from what back length alone suggests. Measure the chest and use whichever measurement lands in the larger size.
Beds and Mats
Measure your pet stretched out on their side, nose to tail, and add roughly 15 to 20 percent so they can straighten out. Then check the bed's external dimensions against the floor space you actually have — the listed size is the outside of the bed, and a bolster edge takes up part of it.
Bowls, Feeders and Bottles
Capacities are listed in US ounces with the metric figure in brackets. For gravity feeders and waterers, the listed capacity is the reservoir, not a daily portion. Ceramic and stainless bowls are listed with their diameter and height so you can check them against a stand or a mat you already own.
Carriers, Strollers and Cages
Compare the listed internal dimensions with your pet standing and turning, not lying down. For birds, check the bar spacing against the species you keep. Every carrier and cage page lists its dimensions and, where relevant, its bar spacing.
We Do Not Publish Charts We Cannot Verify
You will not find a universal breed-to-size chart here. Sizing differs between manufacturers, and copying a generic chart across products would give you a number that looks authoritative and is often wrong. Each product page states the size range and the measurements that item was made to. If a measurement you need is not on the page, email support@meowlyco.com and we will get it from the supplier before you order rather than guessing.
